A DJ's DJ ( Skribble ) ( Edited Version )

Since I can remember I've always been a huge fan of DJ Skribble ever since he was the DJ for a rap group called "Young Black Teenagers."  Their first single was called "Tap the Bottle" and it had a cool chorus with a nice beat.  When I finally saw the video all I could do was see how the rappers interacted with the dj ( skribble ) and how he was entertaining to the music that he played.  For some reason an idea popped into my head that one day with lots of practicing I too could do exactly what dj ( skribble ) did.  A few months later I purchased my first 2 turntables and a mixer from cutting lawns during the summer of 93'.  I wanted to be the entertainer and mixer all in one the way Skribble was.  My first gig was when I was 14 years old and it was a sweet sixteen in the local clubhouse next to my house.  The gig was a great success and I accomplished all that I had set out to do like mix and move the crowd.   I currently run a DJ/Entertainment company called GSL Entertainment and I DJ in various nightclubs and create music mashups.  Thanks to DJ Skribble for being a inspiration to me and to all the DJs out there!

In Closing: With a resume the size of an elephant and the experience of a Harvard professor DJ Skribble has traveled the world to entertain for his fans but I still can't understand how come the hardest working man in show business still can't win America's Best DJ?

Good Skin and Healthy Eating for a DJ/Perfomer

Consciousness to stay fit and be in good shape is one of the major issues being discussed worldwide. Men and women alike are aware that good health can only be achieved when everyone takes some daily regimen to keep oneself fresh, young-looking and free from any diseases.
To be healthy is no longer confined to simply exercising, eating balanced meal and quitting smoking. Skin care is part of the long list of making oneself beautiful and healthy. Women are usually more attentive in doing everything to take care of their physical appearance and prevent the onset of premature aging.
However, in recent years, more men are joining the bandwagon of health-conscious individuals as they seek ways of maintaining good physique and a tender, smooth-looking skin. Health experts have observed that young adults and aging men are getting at par with women when it comes to skin care. Some men are even so vain in maintaining their fresh outward appearance as these men were classified as “metrosexuals.”
As this reality unfolds, old men become more educated and take a time out to understand how to slowdown the manifestations of aging like having wrinkles, age spots and some fine lines. Changes in lifestyle and habits have been seen among aging men to keep their good health and toned skin. Women are very much fascinated to see men starting to fix themselves better than the usual.
Generally, men need more anti-aging skin care than women because the skin types of men are more rugged and often ignored in childhood or during their younger days. For older men to look younger, they have to take major revisions in preventing the early signs of aging.
Facial and body cleansers and moisturizers, often used by most women, are also useful to men to tone down their manly skin texture. Men and women skin types are totally different. But the good news is many health companies have designed beauty products to respond to man’s needs regarding personal hygiene and skin care.
Men have to undergo such daily habits of applying toners, lotions and cleansers if they really want to stay cool and fresh. Safeguarding the skin from too much dryness and dirt will play a major role in controlling wrinkles and fine lines. Dietary intake should also be monitored. A good set of meal with meat and vegetables will be beneficial in maintaining a healthy diet.
Exposure to the scorching heat of the sun may be remedied by applying moisturizers protecting the skin from irritation and pollution. Other anti-aging tips include having a good rest, exercising, living an active lifestyle with some social activities like sports may help rejuvenate your mind and tired muscles and regenerate new tissues.
A positive outlook about life also contributes to the anti-aging techniques. When one is always frowning and irritated, the facial lines become more apparent compared to those who are relaxed and always smiling.
In some extreme cases, some men are considering plastic surgery to trim down their old features and look younger.

How do you get started on healthy eating?
Healthy eating starts with learning new ways to eat, such as adding more fresh fruits, vegetables, and whole grains and cutting back on foods that have a lot of fat, salt, and sugar.
A change to healthier eating also includes learning about balance, variety, and moderation.
  • Aim for balance. Most days, eat from each food group-grains, vegetables, fruits, milk, and meat and other proteins, including beans. Listen to your body. Eat when you're hungry. Stop when you feel satisfied.
  • Look for variety. Be adventurous. Choose different foods in each food group. For example, don't reach for an apple every time you choose a fruit. Eating a variety of foods each day will help you get all the nutrients you need.
  • Practice moderation. Don't have too much or too little of one thing. All foods, if eaten in moderation, can be part of healthy eating. Even sweets can be okay.

Why pay attention to what you eat?

Healthy eating will help you get the right balance of vitaminsminerals, and othernutrients. It will help you feel your best and have plenty of energy.
Healthy eating is one of the best things you can do to prevent health problems, such as:

Is healthy eating the same as going on a diet?

Healthy eating is not a diet. It means making changes you can live with and enjoy for the rest of your life.
Diets are temporary. Because you give up so much when you diet, you may be hungry and think about food all the time. And after you stop dieting, you also may overeat to make up for what you missed.
Eating a healthy, balanced variety of foods is far more satisfying. And if you match that with more physical activity, you are more likely to get to a healthy weight-and stay there-than if you diet.

How do you make healthy eating a habit?

First, think about your reasons for healthier eating. Do you want to improve your health? Do you want to feel better? Are you trying to set an example for your kids?
Next, think about some small changes you can make. Pick ones you can keep doing.
  • Don't try to change everything at once.
  • Set an easy goal you can reach, like having a salad and a piece of fruit each day.
  • Make a long-term goal too, such as having one vegetarian dinner a week.

Where can you get support?

Having support from others can be a huge help. The more support you have, the easier it will be to make changes. Ask family and friends to practice healthy eating with you. Have them help you make meals, and share healthy, delicious recipes and cooking tips.
If you need more help, talk to your doctor or a registered dietitian. Look online for groups that support healthy eating and share success stories.
In Summary, when working in the entertainment business good skin and healthy eating are a must.  A performer should look, act and feel the role they take on.  Just like actors and actresses have to look and act a certain way so should you.  DJs go through a rigorous workout when it comes to entertaining so before you perform at your next gig please follow these simple steps to a better you that in time will make you feel more comfortable and confident for all your guests to see.

Who Sampled? Exploring and Discussing the DNA of Music

In musicsampling is the act of taking a portion, or sample, of one sound recording and reusing it as an instrument or a different sound recording of a song. The wide spread use of sampling in popular music originated with the birth of hip hop music in New York in the 1970s. This is typically done with a sampler, which can be a piece of hardware or a computer program. Sampling is also possible with tape loops or with vinyl records on a phonograph.
Often "samples" consist of one part of a song, such as a break, used in another, for instance the use of the drum introduction from Led Zeppelin's "When the Levee Breaks" in songs by the Beastie BoysDr. DreEminemMike OldfieldRob DouganColdcutDepeche Mode and Erasure, and the guitar riffs from Foreigner's "Hot Blooded" in Tone Lōc's "Funky Cold Medina". "Samples" in this sense occur often in industrial music, often using spoken words from movies and TV shows, as well as electronic music (which developed out of the musique concrète style, based almost entirely on samples and sample-like parts), hip hop, developed from DJs repeating the breaks from songs (Schloss 2004, p. 36), and contemporary R&B, but are becoming more common in other music as well.

You can see how artists widely use sampling as a key to their success.  Their are many different types of copyright laws for music and no one does a better job on collecting royalties than the company ASCAP.

Top 100 Music Hits by: Billboard.com

As a DJ and music lover I'm always keeping up to date on what's hot through many different outlets such as record pools from Promoonly, ERG Music, DJ City, Crooklyn Clan and more.  Their is no place that I would rather go to for music then "The Billboard Music Chart" which is the most reliable source for all music fans and DJs alike.

The Billboard charts tabulate the relative weekly popularity of songs or albums in the United States. The results are published in Billboard magazine. The two primary charts – the Hot 100 (top 100 singles) and the Billboard 200 (top 200 albums) – factor in airplay, as well as music sales in all relevant formats.
On January 4, 1936, Billboard magazine published its first music hit parade. The first Music Popularity Chart was calculated in July 1940. A variety of song charts followed, which were eventually consolidated into the Hot 100 by mid-1958. The Hot 100 currently combines single sales, radio airplay and digital downloads.

Denon's MC6000 Media Player for professional DJs

I recently purchased this unit for $699 for ProAudioStar in NY and I couldn't be happier!   They were running a sale on the item that usually lists for $799.  It has some many features such as effects, sampler, 2 mic inputs, works as a real DJ mixer and it comes boxed with the LE edition of Virtual DJ.  For me being a fellow Serato users I had to shake my head at the notion of using another DJ program but I have to tell you that Virtual DJ is a successful program with many features that are not found on many DJ programs like having the ability to control 4 decks at once.  The unit has a very solid construction and can be used for any type of affair.  For the price I paid I was able to purchase a road case for the Denon Mc6000 that should be arriving this week.  Cases are a "must have" for any DJ and his equipment because it serves 2 purposes (1) it protects the unit from scratches or dropping and (2) it looks very professional and sleek when you arrive at a gig.

Free downloadable mp3 ( Bruno Mars-Grenade "DJ Joey C Remix" )

As the President of GSL Entertainment I'm a huge music fan.  I am a avid listener of the radio and music channels so I like to stay on top of what's hot.  Over the years remixes have been the biggest thing since sliced bread.  When a song comes out on the radio you can be sure that a remix will shortly follow.  Starting with the big name producers/djs such as DJ Joey C from Mash Up Mafia, Redone, Laidback Luke,  Dave Aude,  Armand Van Helden will get first crack at taking a pop hit and making it a successful remix.  Please note that a good dj doesn't play all remixes at his venue.  The trick in using remixes is to use them sparingly between the original tracks.  Unless the bride and groom or sweet sixteen girl request all remixes at their affair then maybe this will be successful move but remember anything in excess is too much and can get boring and un-orginial quick.
