How far we've come in the art of Communication and Social Media

From the Beginning: Better than shouting

How humans started to communicate long before social media sites took off

Before we got to where we are now humans needed to communicate with one another and here's how it started:::

Communication begins with language, the distinctive ability which has made possible the evolution of human society. With language any message, no matter how complex, can be conveyed between people over a limited distance - within a room or place of assembly, or across a short open space. In modern times 'town criers' hold an annual contest to discover which of them can shout a comprehensible message over the greatest distance. The world record is less than 100 metres. Already, at that short range, a more practical alternative is to run with the message.

The history of communication is mankind's search for ways to improve upon shouting.

From A Royal Wedding to Fairytale Wedding

This year the world experienced one of the biggest weddings of our time:  Prince William and Kate Middleton

ROYAL WEDING RECAP: Prince William and Kate Middleton ( April 29th, 2011 )

They came, they saw, they kissed.
For a few bright hours yesterday morning, the world took a break from the revolutions, the devastation, the all-around tough times to watch a young couple kiss. Not just once, but twice.
Here in no particular order are the five best moments of the wedding of Prince William and Kate, now duchess of Cambridge, to relive:
1. The kisses. Of course, the kisses. Notice Prince William blushes far more than his bride. I like that in a man.
2. Sarah Burton, the designer for Alexander McQueen, may have had big shoes to fill after design rock star McQueen’s death, but her sumptuous wedding dress for Kate, which prompted Grace Kelly comparisons, have made her a bona fide star.
3. The cartwheeling clergyman. After the procession left the Abbey, one man let loose embodying the pure joie de vivre of the day. Score one for the Church of England.
4. The utterly inane and utterly wonderful media onslaught. Stuever breaks down the best hosts. Who won the top honor of moderating? It’llsurprise you.
5. The hats. Princess Beatrice stole the show with her loopy, gravity-defying bow, but the other head-toppers also managed to delight.
6. Oh, heck, one more: the whole glorious thing. Go read Ned Martel’s breakdown of the wedding minute-by-minute to experience it all over again. And then watch the couple kiss one more time.
Here’s the final word: Prince Harry, hurry up and marry! I’m ready forroyal wedding Part 2!

The world's second biggest wedding of our time:
FAIRY TALE WEDDING RECAP:  Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries ( August 20th, 2011 )

Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries got married Saturday evening at a private estate in Montecito, Calif., before a reported 440 guests. Contrary tothe wishes of this blog, the bride and groom did not announce plans to retire from public life for five years and pursue charity work in a small Zimbabwean village. They just got married, celebrated at a lavish reception and engaged in a few wardrobe changes.
Surely you have questions about what happened at this joyful, over-hyped, soon-to-be-televised event. Here are some answers.

What did Kim Kardashian wear?

During the ceremony, she wore an ivory, strapless Vera Wang gown with a tulle skirt and a massive train. E! Online also reports that she donned a veil with a jeweled hairpiece with diamonds that dangled onto Kardashian’s forehead. Because this one ivory Vera Wang gown was not enough, she also changed into two additional Vera Wang ivory gowns during the reception. She must have taken advantage of that Vera Wang “3 for the price of 1” Groupon that recently circulated. (Actually, according to the New York Post, all of them were free.)

What did the bridesmaids wear?
Contrary to a tweet from Kourtney Kardashian that said the bridal party would be in green, the five Ks — Kourtney, Khloe Kardashian, Kylie and Kendal Jenner and Kaela Humphries, sister of the groom — also wore ivory.
Have people on the Internet already accused Kardashian of copying Kate Middleton by dressing her bridesmaids in ivory?
Yes. So far Pippa Middleton has no comment on the situation.
What did the groom wear?
According to People, Humphries was decked out in a white tuxedo jacket, black tuxedo pants and a white tux shirt with white bow tie, all designed by Ermenegildo Zegna and in keeping with the wedding’s black and white theme. In a massive show of restraint, he only changed the top part of his ensemble one time during the reception.
Who attended the wedding?
In addition to the many members of the Kardashian/Jenner family, a number of celebrities were there. People notes that guests included Demi Lovato, Mario Lopez, Ryan Seacrest and Julianne Hough, Eva Longoria and boyfriend Eduardo Cruz, Serena Williams, Kathie Lee Gifford, Avril Lavigne and boyfriend Brody Jenner and a trio of Lohans: Dina, Ali and Lindsay.
Who officiated the wedding?
The Christian ceremony was presided over by Pastor Joel Johnson, who has known Humphries since he was a teen. (Darn. I was hoping for Rev. Run.) The ceremony lasted 30 minutes. E!’s cameras were filming the whole time, in order to capture the many moments for the two-part October special “Kim’s Fairy Tale Wedding: A Kardashian Event.” But those cameras were draped in white to ensure that the apparent need for publicity and attention fit in with the color scheme.
What was the bride and groom’s first dance?
The reliable source that is E! reports that they shared their first moments on the dance floor to “Angels” by Robin Thicke, who performed it live. The rest of the music for the evening was provided by Earth, Wind and Fire and, later, a DJ.
How was the food?
Wolfgang Puck catered, so the dinner’s dishes were filled with fancy ingredients like heirloom tomatoes and summer truffles.
When can we all get to see some wedding photos?
The rights to those photos have been sold to People magazine for areported $1.5 million. The magazine plans to run them in its Sept. 5 issue.
Wait, Kardashian and Humphries made money off their blessed event?
It looks that way. As the New York Post notes, many of the high-priced wedding items — the $10,000 invitations, the $15,000 cake — were comped. And the aforementioned E! special is expected to bring in between $12 million and $15 million via advertising revenue, money that the Post says will go the Kardashian family franchise and the producer of the special, wedding guest Ryan Seacrest.
The Beatles were right. Money can’t buy you love. But a TV special, the sale of magazine photos and a lot of product endorsements can buy you a fabulous wedding.
